Coverage and Protection of your weapon in a holster-FAQS — MTR Custom Leather

MTR Custom Leather, LLC designs holsters for a wide range of materials, shapes, retention, from simple leather pouches hanging from a belt to highly protective holsters with flaps that cover the entire handgun, to highly adjustable competition holsters that hold the handgun at a precise position and release instantly when activated. The wide range of types indicates the highly varied circumstances in which holsters are used, and the varying preferences of the customers.

The function of MTR holsters is to hold and restrict the undesired movement of the weapon, most commonly in a location where it can be easily withdrawn for immediate use. (We do not recommend the upside down shaking method for the weapon’s retention in the holster). Holsters vary in the degree to which they secure or protect the weapon. The need for ready access is often at odds with the need for security and protection, so the customer must consider their own preference.

Choosing the right balance can be very important, especially in the case of a defensive weapon holster, where failure to access the weapon quickly or damage or loss of the weapon due to insufficient retention or protection could result in serious injury or death to the customer. With this being said, MTR covers the TRIGGER on ALL holsters, unless otherwise specified. If you would like your full trigger guard of your weapon covered, please specify by a phone call (336) 879-2166, email (sales@mtrcustomleather.com), comment on order or our live chat. If there is any other additional coverage that you would like on your holster for your personal preference of protection or safety of your weapon, please inform us.

Memorial Day 2019 – MTR MEMORIAL WEEKEND SALE-COUPON CODE INSIDE

Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States celebrated on the last Monday of May commemorating men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Initially (officially since 1868 – proclaimed by General John Logan) Memorial Day was a holiday in memory of the soldiers who died in the Civil War. The feast was supposed to be a step towards national reconciliation. The original name (Decoration Day) comes from placing flowers on the graves of the soldiers.

Memorial Day was celebrated differently in different states. Until 1890 it was celebrated in all the states of the North. After World War I the nature of the holiday changed to honor the memory of all Americans who died in any war – not only Civil.

Memorial Day Date

From 1868 to 1970 the holiday was held on May 30. The Uniform Monday Holiday Act moved its date to last Monday of May to increase the number of three-day weekends for federal employees

John Hickenlooper releases plan to reduce gun violence – CBS News

Democratic presidential candidate and former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper released a set of proposals Wednesday to curb gun violence, including a call for national gun licenses and raising the legal age to own a firearm. Here are some of the initiatives he’s proposing, some of which are based on legislation he signed into law as governor:

  • Universal background checks: Hickenlooper is calling for national background checks for all gun sales, pointing out that one in five gun purchases do not undergo checks because of existing loopholes. He wants to close loopholes and extend the current three-day waiting period to 10 days in order to close what’s known as the “Charleston loophole,” which enabled Dylann Roof to purchase guns he used to kill nine parishioners in a black church in 2015.
  • National gun licenses: Gun owners would be required to obtain a national gun license that would also require a background check. The license would need to be renewed online every five years.
  • Raise minimum age to own a gun to 21: Currently, individuals in the U.S. who are at least 18 years of age may own a gun. Licensed firearms sellers may sell handguns to people who are not under 21 years old. But unlicensed people may sell or transfer handguns to people who are 18 years of age.
  • Encourage extreme risk protection orders: Would give grants to states to encourage them to put laws on the books allowing families and law enforcement to remove — temporarily — a person’s access to guns in order to prevent gun violence, if there are warning signs that the individual poses a danger. Such laws have been passed in Colorado and 14 other states, according to a release from the Hickenlooper campaign.
  • Magazine limits and bump stocks: Hickenlooper passed magazine limits in Colorado and is pushing for similar action nationwide. He’s also calling for Congress to codify the Justice Department’s interpretation of a rule to effectively ban bump stocks, which are used to make legal firearms function in a manner similar to automatic weapons.
  • Assault weapons ban: Calls for renewal of assault weapons ban, which was passed in 1994 and expired in 2004. Some in Congress have tried to renew the ban and failed. Hickenlooper acknowledged in his press release the problems with the earlier ban, noting that gun manufacturers found ways to evade the ban. He believes that the ban introduced by Democrats this year addresses many of the shortcomings of the prior bill.
  • Boost access to mental health services for children: School-based mental health services and community health centers can help identify and support students “who require more intensive services or…law enforcement intervention,” the campaign’s press release noted.

Hickenlooper has few friends at the NRA — he received an “F” rating from the NRA Victory Fund, which states on its website: “Make no mistake about it, Governor Hickenlooper is anti-gun and actively seeks to diminish Second Amendment rights in Colorado and throughout the nation.”

Other 2020 Democratic contenders are also weighing in on guns. Last week, California Sen. Kamala Harris announced plans to ban AR-15-style firearm imports. New Jersey Senator Cory Booker recently released a gun plan that also calls for a licensed gun ownership program.

In 2018, over 22,000 people died from firearm suicides in 2016, according to a CDC report.

New gun laws spark secret messaging, recalls-

In a rural pocket of New Mexico, Sheriff Ian Fletcher fights back against new state firearm laws he calls unconstitutional, decrying “out-of-state gun control groups” in a column the Catron Courier newspaper published this spring.

“These measures make it harder for law-abiding New Mexicans to exercise their Second Amendment rights, waste scarce law enforcement resources, and do nothing to keep guns out of the hands of criminals,” the column says.

Fletcher’s missive is part of a campaign among representatives of at least 75 cities and counties nationwide that call themselves Second Amendment sanctuaries, opposing enforcement of gun background checks and emergency protection orders.

The only problem: Fletcher didn’t write the column; a lobbyist with the National Rifle Association did.

Fletcher says the letter was passed to him by a sheriffs’ association and he’s not “the NRA’s puppet.”

“I didn’t have any direct contact with the NRA, but the letter was probably a little more articulate than I might have been,” says Fletcher, who is depicted with an AR-15 on the county’s official website. “It wasn’t a cut-and-paste job. I read it and agreed.”

The nation’s firearm debate is playing out in these rural counties, where sheriffs hold broad policing authority, as well as in Denver’s suburbs, where a Republican sheriff faces recall for backing gun control laws.

Armed Forces Day 2019

Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in May. This year it will be celebrated on Saturday, May 19, 2019. Thanks to President Harry S. Truman, it’s a day to pay special tribute to the men and women of the Armed Forces. President Truman led the effort to establish a holiday in order for citizens to unite and to honor our military heroes for their patriotic service in support of the United States of America.

Although, originally, there were single day celebrations for each branch of the military, the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force; this format changed on August 21, 1949, when Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of Armed Forces Day. Stemming from the unification of the Armed Forces under the Department of Defense, the annual celebration now commemorates all branches of the military during one solitary day.

The first official Armed Forces Day took place on May 20, 1950, and was themed “Teamed for Defense.” In honor of the special day, B-36 Bombers flew over state capitals, a march was led by more than 10,000 veterans and troops in Washington, D.C., and over 33,000 people participated in a New York City parade.
