The G43X with Modular Optic System configuration.GLOCK Inc.GLOCK, Inc.’s Slimline GLOCK 43X and GLOCK 48 are now available in the Modular Optic System (MOS) configuration. These slim 9X19 pistol models feature a micro-optic-ready factory-milled slide and a slim rail.

The G43X and G48 were introduced in July 2019 and feature a compact, Slimline frame with a 10-round magazine capacity.  The optic-ready Slimline models are now available with an MOS cutout and slim GLOCK mounting rail system. With a non-standard MOS footprint, the Slimline MOS models require specific mico-reflex optics such as the Shield RMSc.

The G48 with Modular Optic System configuration.GLOCK Inc.Reflex optics (MOS) allow you to look through the reticle and focus on the target and alignment of the dot.  The slim design allows the optical sight to be closer to the shooter’s line of sight and eliminates the need for high, back-up sights by allowing visibility of the standard GLOCK sights through the lens of the compact optic. With improved accuracy, quicker target acquisition and versatility, MOS pistols have become increasingly more popular for home and self-defense and are an ideal options for confined space operations.

A non-standard accessory rail allows for a light to be attached with close alignment to the firearm’s bore with positioning in front of the trigger guard which allows the operator to maintain a two-handed grip.

Based on the Boberg Arms XR9-S, the Bullpup provides a variety of uncommon features designed to keep the pistol small and lightweight while reducing felt recoil. Glock’s extremely popular Slimline Series took a big step forward with the enhanced-capacity Glock 43X and Glock 48.

Undoubtedly, Glock has been among the top players in the concealed carry pistol market. Outside of their long-slides, there’s a case to be made that nearly every model in the legendary gunmaker’s catalog is a potential undercover option, at least for some armed citizen out there. In recent years, however, the company has turned its studied eye to producing pistols optimized to the hilt for everyday carry.

The Glock Slimline Series is the gunmaker’s response to consumer demand for single-stack options. This year the line got a couple upgrades that make it hard to deny Glock is hitting its groove with this configuration. The Glock 43X and Glock 48 not only offer enhanced capacity over the original Slimline G42 and G43, but greater shootablity. Actually the two walk hand-in-hand for the 9mms.

To squeeze in more rounds for 10+1 capacity, Glock had to extend the grip of the pistols. Given its mastery at packing rounds into limited real estate, the lengthening wasn’t by leaps and bounds. With a magazine, the Glock 43X and Glock 48 both have a height of 5.04 inches, which is around ¾ of an inch greater than the Glock 43. This shouldn’t make them a bear to conceal, at the same tick, most shooters will have enough grip to get their entire hand on the pistols. It makes a difference.

The FN 509® Tactical, an extension of the FN 509 family, is based on FN’s submission pistol that the U.S. Army tested for its Modular Handgun Trials, but includes the significant improvements to the design that were implemented in the FN 509. The Glock Modular Optic System (MOS)

The Glock MOS models come from the factory with a slot milled out of the top of the slide just forward of the rear sight dovetail. The slot is just about two inches long and maybe 3/16 inches deep if you remove the cover or mounting plate. The gun comes with a “cover” plate installed which fills this gap completely, so at a glance, the Glock 17 MOS Pistol looks like a regular Glock 17 Gen 4 model handgun, except for the visible seams.
Even the slide serrations extend to the cover, so the feel will be the same as a standard Glock when the cover is installed.

To mount an optic directly to the slide, you simply remove the cover plate and replace it with one of four included adapter plates. These plates are clearly numbered one to four and are cut with posts and holes specific to a variety of optics mounting systems.

Plate 2: Trijicon
Plate 3: C-More
Plate 4: Leupold

Mounting an Optic
The process of mounting an optic is pretty straightforward. Unlike some other optics ready pistols, there are two levels of fastening stuff together with screws.
First, remove the cover plate over the mounting area using the provided Torx wrench. You’ll notice that the optics adapter plate kit comes with four different plates as mentioned above. It also includes four shorter screws than those that attach the cover plate. You only need two screws, so I presume that two are simply spares. They’re shorter because the mounting plate is only about half as tall as the cover plate. This makes sense because, when installed, the base of the optic will be lower than the top of the slide.
