The best thing about package deals is that the leather and the colors will be matching.

If you order a belt in dark brown now, then order a holster next month also in dark brown the color may not be exact.

WHY?

Because all leather products are made to order, including dying the leather. Leather hides has pores just like us humans. The pores could be denser than other leather hides (bigger/wider). The deeper or wider the pores the more leather dye the cow hide will absorb meaning that the color could be darker or lighter in shade. The leather pores cannot be seen by the naked eye. So, MTR Custom Leather cannot know how the exact shade of leather dye on the leather will turn out to look until after the leather has been dyed and dried and sealed.

All photos below are saddle tan bullhide leather, all different shades. All different cow hides with same exact leather dye.

Conclusion:

It’s best to buy your products together to ensure the closest matching color and texture of the leather. Another option would choose black as your color, black is always the same shade!

Double Stitched Holsters-Explained in better detail-Why? Retention, Size, Strength, Etc. All Explained

Double stitching is a second line of stitching. This will aid in better retention and long term use of the holster. (extra $15.99) (prices may vary over time). However, keep in mind that the holster or leather product that you receive may not be double stitched all the round the holster.

WHY? 

Example picture below of the thumb break strap on the A-4 Avenger Scabbard Holster is not stitched. 

To make the thumb break strap functional, concealable and safe, MTR Custom Leather did not include a 3rd and 4th line of stitching. A few reasons why?

1- The hardware is in the way. The military directional snap both female and male is located right in the middle of the thumb break strap. Also, the thumb break metal tab is also located in the middle of the strap.

But WHY Don’t you made the strap wider? 

Some weapons are too small around the back side of the weapon (slide area). Next, more leather is less concealability, heavier in weight, will stretch faster=less retention for long term use.

Why didn’t you double stitch the bottom of the holster? 

Great question! 

The bottom of the holster could be double stitched, however, it would add another 1/8”+ to the bottom of the holster.

WHY?

MTR Custom Leather uses heavy duty sewing machines with a large needle. In fact our sewing machines could sew through a 1/4″ of ply-wood. WOW! Watch out fingers! We only use the best, including heavy duty NYLON thread, not cotton. WHY? That way the thread will last longer , hold up the weapon better which leads to better retention and durability. Also, no dry rotting or tearing easy like cotton thread.

Okay, back to the real question, our sewing machine footer (Google states: A walking foot or even feed foot works with your machine to feed the layers through the machine, you guessed it, evenly) FYI, I just do leather, not technical on the terms or writing BLOGs..lol..so forgive me on the grammar, misspell, etc.) Okay any who, the presser foot requires so much room for sewing, in our case it’s about 1/8″. Over the past years majority, well all customers want the smallest, lightest, concealable, safest holster. Therefore, we do not add any more leather to the end of the holster, we use the acronym “KISS” if you don’t know what that means GOOGLE it! 🙂

1/8″+ in the gun world of concealment can be huge when it comes to hiding your friend on your side! However, if you want that extra line of stitching on the bottom of the holster, then SHOOT, we can do it for you! No problem! Since MTR Custom Leather hand crafts each and every product, we can add more leather and double stitch around the bottom of the holster and guess what? WHAT you ask? 

It’s FREE because it’s unusual, but possible! lol.. forgive me for my humor. It’s like a Monday here!

Starting with the basics, what is a combat cut hybrid holster? Combat cut refers to the cut of the leather behind the gun, the side closest to your body. What it means is that the leather behind the grip area of your gun has been removed. Leather still remains behind the frame and slide of the gun.

This method of cutting the leather got its name because in combat you need to be able to quickly draw from your holster. Removing the leather from behind the grip of the gun results in a quicker and easier draw. Making it not only better suited for combat situations but also for everyday carry.

So, just to reiterate, a combat cut on a hybrid holster, is when the leather behind the grip of the gun is removed for a smoother and easier draw.

What is Standard Cut On A MTR Custom Leather Holsters?

Moving on to standard cut. If you don’t want a combat cut holster, what other cut is available? That would be a standard cut! Since combat cut is the removal of the leather behind the grip of the gun, the standard cut holster is going to still have that leather there.

What this means is the full-size backing (non combat cut) of the holster is sitting between your body and your gun. This leather acts as a cushion between the grip of the gun and your body, sometimes making it more comfortable than the combat cut.

So, standard cut just means the leather backing of the holster is cut to full size. There are no accommodations for easier drawing like there is with combat cuts. But that doesn’t mean drawing from a standard cut holster isn’t easy, it may just take a little extra practice.

Why Would I Want a Combat Cut Holster?

Imagine you are standing in line at the grocery store. You’ve got your cart with your groceries for the week and are loading them onto the counter as you make light conversation with the cashier. You notice someone walking toward your register in a hood, as you continue unloading your groceries you keep an eye on this person.

They approach your cashier and demand that they are given the money in the register as they have a gun pulled out. You quickly reach for your sidearm when they aren’t looking at you but your hand fumbles as you try to draw your gun because of the leather from your holster being in the way. Thankfully you are able to draw your weapon and protect yourself and the other people in the store. But if you hadn’t been able to draw because of the leather getting in your way, you could have been seriously injured.

In this situation, the leather holster you were wearing was a standard cut and that is why there was leather that got in your way as you were drawing. As we mentioned earlier combat cut removes the leather that is typically behind the grip of the gun so you don’t have to fumble with the leather as you draw. Overall, having a combat cut on your hybrid holster makes it easier to draw your gun.

Pros of a Combat Cut Hybrid Holster

Let’s talk about the pros of choosing to get your leather holster with a combat cut. We’ve been talking about what combat cut is and why you may want it which leads us into the pros of combat cut.

The primary benefit of having a combat cut is that it allows for easier grip access. Having the full leather backing on your hybrid holster can slow your draw time. With the leather behind the grip of the gun, in order to draw your gun from your holster, you will need to make sure your thumb slides between the leather and grip for a good master grip.

Having a combat cut means you can get a master grip and quickly draw your gun. But keep in mind not having a full leather backing means the grip of your gun will be against your body instead of the leather. If you find this is irritating you can wear an undershirt behind the holster so that the grip isn’t against your skin.

Some people find that not having the additional leather keeps them cooler and reduces sweat. Overall, combat cut is a very popular option when purchasing hybrid holsters to create a smoother and easier draw in an everyday carry holster.

Pros of Standard Cut Holster

We covered the pros of combat cut so it’s only appropriate that we talk about the pros of a standard cut holster as well. To review standard cut is the full size leather backing on a holster.

Many people find that having the extra leather between the grip of the gun and their body adds additional comfort to an already comfortable holster. But the extra leather does something else too. It acts as a barrier between your body and your gun to help protect it from any sweat that may get on it. This can be especially important if you live in a warmer climate like Florida.

So, while combat cut has its benefits a standard cut holster does too. Some people prefer the added comfort of the full leather backing.

Summary

A quick recap, a standard cut holster has a full size leather backing. Some people find this to be more comfortable than the alternative and the extra leather acts as a sweat shield for your gun. A combat cut holster, on the other hand, has the leather removed from behind the grip of the gun for an easier draw. Since there is less leather this cut can result in less sweat.

There are many ways to conceal carry your weapon, but you must obtain your Concealed Carry License or permit. Before you do anything else, you first need to make sure that you’re in compliance with your state’s laws. Next, there is NO consensus on the method of carry; It is just a matter of personal preferences. There are two things I would recommend you focus on. Select a method that allows you to comfortably carry and adequately conceal your weapon ALL the time. Of course, this can be a challenge depending on your body type and build, style of dress, lifestyle, location and temperature changes, preferences for where on your body you want to carry, etc. Which can often dictate where you can and cannot place your weapon. Think about your daily activities that you would be doing when wearing the holster: riding, sitting, outdoors, indoors, hiking, line of work etc.

Difference between full and trim exotic leather??

Every holster style will be different when it comes to exotic leather trim. Above is a few examples of different holster models with exotic leather trim. Usually on a holster the mouth of the holster area will be in exotic leather trim. On the original holster it would be the extra piece of leather.

Before Placing an Order Please READ:

Production Time Frame:

MTR Custom Leather, LLC strives hard to customize each leather good with the best quality and detail. Because each holster is custom- made to order, we ask you to be patient with us. When you order from MTR Custom Leather, LLC, please allow 15-20 weeks for order to be completed. It’s not that it takes 15-20 weeks to manufacture the order, but it’s the position in line of the order when placed. Therefore, we charge you for your order when you first place the order to secure your spot in line and we do not want to keep or hold any financial information. The 15-20 weeks turn around is based on the difficulty of the order. For an example, if the order is a shoulder rig or ankle rig than you’re most likely going to wait 20 weeks compared to someone just ordering a gun belt or a magazine pouch. Also, some weeks we can produce more leather items than some and get orders out in 15 weeks than the 20 weeks-again this is due to all employees present each week (sickness, kids, vacation, etc.) Covid-effects of material, weather conditions, holidays, etc.

Expedite Service:

MTR Custom Leather, LLC offers expedite order service for customers who might need their order in a faster period due to concealment class, birthdays, occasions, holidays, or they just want it faster. Expedite orders do not affect our current production time. Expedites orders are usually done after hours (over time as a bonus) for employees. Expedite Service includes getting your order faster, shipping cost (shipped by USPS Priority 2-Day), full insurance on order and tracking. The BEST part is, only one employee works on your order from start to finish focusing only on your order for completion! Expedite orders is an estimated time frame and not guaranteed, however you will receive your order ALOT faster than our standard time frame, not that’s GUARANTEED. The given time frame is during business days, weekends and holidays not included.

Processing of Orders:

MTR Custom Leather, LLC wants to inform all customers that each order is made to order. When the order is placed, our customer service will process the order and look for the obvious (missing color, shooting hand etc.). Next step is the waiting process, the order will be put in line for production. Once the professional manufactures start to craft your order, they may conclude that your order may not be able to be completed; due to multiple of reasons, like the variations (laser/lights/optics/weapon), options (color/leather/enclosed end). Some options may not be functional once properly crafted all together. If the order seems unsafe or non-functional when crafted, then we will contact you by email or phone to give you other options.

Change of Order:

Once you place your order and later find out that you made a mistake or need to change your order, please contact us through email at sales@mtrcustomleather.com. The first change of order is FREE; however, you decide to change your order again there will be an $10 fee each change.

Status Updates:

To find out the status of your order login to your MTR Custom Leather, LLC account and your initial production time (from the day you placed the order) is noted in the note section on your account. To find out the status update of your order, please send us an email at sales@mtrcustomleather.com.

Cancelation:

If you decide to cancel your order for any reason, please contact us through email only at sales@mtrcustomleather.com. Upon canceling your order, you will have the option to choose a full refund in the form of a gift card or a partial refund back onto your card (10% fee of the total is charged). The fee is used to cover the merchant service fees that is charged to MTR Custom Leather, LLC when you first placed your order and for the refund.

(PayPal also, will not allow any refunds if the payment was accepted longer than 6 months ago. Therefore, MTR Custom Leather, LLC has no other option but to send you a gift card for the amount, if it’s been longer than 6 months.)

Shipping Carriers:

MTR Custom Leather, LLC uses USPS and UPS for all shipping. You can choose at checkout how you would like your package shipped.

Missing/Lost/Delay Packages:

MTR Custom Leather, LLC will take responsible for any missing, lost or delay packages. The process can take time depending on the carrier service. However, we will do our best to get the situation revolved. If you think your package is missing, delay or lost, please contact your local post office first. If the carrier states the package is lost or missing, then contact MTR Custom Leather, LLC, so we can start a claim.

Warranty:

  • MTR Custom Leather, LLC stands behind the craftsmanship of all our products. If your order has any manufacturing defects due to normal use such as stitching, leather, retention, and hardware within the year of receiving, we will take all necessary actions to correct the problem. Service and repair charges may apply.
  • If the defect is found to be because of misuse or abuse, we will communicate with you to reach a fair repair or replacement cost.
  • If any chemicals or solutions have been applied to the product, then the warranty is no longer in affect.
  • If the item(s) have been tailor with, then the warranty is no longer in affect.

 Return Policy:

  •  MTR Custom Leather, LLC strives hard to customize and craft each item with the best quality and detail by hand. When you first receive your order, please check to make sure the order is as you have ordered (color, shooting hand, weapon, etc.). If you noticed the order is incorrect, please contact us by email with the concern and pictures of your item (after 30 days the order is yours). If you do not contact us before you ship the item back to us, then your item may be lost in the returns department, no guarantee.
  • If you receive the order and you just do not like it for any reason, then unfortunately there is no returns, exchanges, or refunds.

(Keep in mind that some products may be slightly different than the pictures online due to the custom-made nature of the product. When you make something custom from genuine leather, no two items will be identical. Some of the pictures may be slightly altered from how they appear. Colors may also vary. Additionally, dark, and light areas may appear on products due to animals’ pores in the hide. Exotic Leather tends to show less detail due to the thickness and texture.)

  • Any item returned must be unused and in “as new” condition, with original untorn package or there may be a 30% restocking fee.
  • Belts that are made to your individual sizing specifications are not returnable for exchange or refund. No exceptions! Please, carefully follow our measuring instructions on our “FAQ” page located under important links.
  • Expedite fee and shipping charges are non-refundable.

How to measure for a Gun Belt?-MTR Custom Leather

Take a ruler and measure from the buckle end where the leather folds over the buckle to the hole that you currently wear it in to the nearest inch. On your new belt there will be 6 holes for adjustment–two holes (2 inches), then the center hole, and 3 holes forward (3 inches). If you are going to wear IWB holster, measure the belt with the holster and the gun for accurate belt measurement.
